The protests were organised by the Zimbabwe Banks and Allied Workers’ Union (Zibawu) on behalf of their colleagues at Stanbic Bank.

The bank workers were also demanding 100% medical aid cover against the 70% offered by the financial institution.

“We are calling upon the banking public to boycott the services and products of Stanbic Bank in support and solidarity with the workers who are being exploited,” Zibawu president Farai Katsande said.

“We don’t know what the $18 million profit was used for. In March, management gave themselves increments at the expense of the workers who are responsible for bringing the profits.”
