IT could be the new trend in town and hence fashionable, but that the corporate world and other organisations have started appreciating the role of the arts in the society is worth of applause.

Initially it was the likes of Alick Macheso, Sulumani Chimbetu, Stunner and Winky D among others and it appears the hard work over the last few years is finally paying off.

The latest of such artistes is gospel musician Tatenda Mahachi who was last Thursday appointed Brand Ambassador for non-governmental organisation (NGO) Care and the Core of Humanity (Catch).

Mahachi told NewsDay that he felt honoured by the task that he has been entrusted with.

“That I am now also an ambassador like many of my fellow musicians, some accomplished and others my peers, gives me a lot of joy.

“Yet above all that, it is the nature of work that I have been tasked with that gives joy,” Mahachi said.

“It is such an honour for me to be tasked with inspiring kids to be better and hardworking people in life. It gives me so much joy to be able to touch someone’s life positively.”

Mahachi said he would be responsible for fundraising for Catch through performing at their events and mobilising funds for their various projects.

He said he would soon be releasing a track for the project that would signal his kick-starting of the mission.

“The track is titled Vanochema and it speaks against child abuse,” he said.

The musician has got three albums to his name starting with Miyedzo, Kure and Agare.

He said he would be responsible for crime campaigns and rehabilitation of the youths that work with Catch.

Mahachi said he would, however, not be sitting pretty, but getting straight to work.

“There is a tendency of waiting for things to happen by people who get into such positions, but I will be getting straight to work,” he said.

“It is a position that requires a lot of work and responsibility and that is what we would be doing as soon as possible.”
