Councillors passed the resolution during a full council meeting on Tuesday.

City engineer Donald Nyatoti told councillors that the pilot project would be introduced in a specific area to test its efficacy.

“We have proposed a number of meters that we should start with. We have also indicated the area where the pilot project is going to be carried out,” Nyatoti said.

Two months ago, Environment, Water and Climate minister Saviour Kasukuwere urged local authorities to turn to prepaid meters to ensure residents paid for water that they would have consumed.
