MDC-T official Job Sikhala who, on Thursday morning was arrested by police in Beitbridge, is still in custody despite an earlier announcement by the party’s spokesperson Obert Gutu that he had been released.

The reasons for Sikhala’s arrest were not yet clear as police were not immediately available for comment.

Said Gutu. “Latest information that I am getting confirms that Job Sikhala is, infact, still under arrest. He has since arrived at Harare Central Police station and he has been referred to CID Homicide.”

Sikhala also posted on his Facebook page stating that police are contemplating charging him with treason.

“We have now arrived at Harare Central Police Station, Law and Order after my arrest at Beitbridge Border Post this morning. They are trying to press treason charges against me. Douglas Mwonzora our Secretary General is my lawyer,” he wrote on his wall.
