A ZIMRA warehouse at Beitbridge Border Post was on Thursday night gutted by a raging fire which started around 1800hrs destroying goods belonging to travellers who would have failed to pay duty, sources said.

The cause of the fire could not be ascertained.

Witnesses said efforts by Beitbridge Town Council and Noczim fire brigades to put out the fire were fruitless as there were reportedly no fire hydrants around the area.

The border town relies on Gwanda and Musina fire brigade from the South African side in the event of a fire outbreak. Officials feared that substantial losses might be incurred as a result of the fire.
