Ntita Didier (35) of Eastlea, Harare, was arrested on January 21 this year after police received information that he was dealing in diamonds without the requisite documents.

Prosecutor Francisca Mukumbiri told the court that detectives from the Minerals and Border Control Unit raided Didier’s house and recovered 678 pieces of suspected diamonds wrapped in a khaki envelope and stashed under his car seat.

The suspected diamonds were handed over to the Minerals Marketing Corporation of Zimbabwe (MMCZ) for verification.

The court heard that the MMCZ managed to confirm that 675 of the stones were genuine diamonds with a market value of $31 843.04.
