MIDLANDS State University (MSU) students’ representative council (SRC) will tomorrow host the Miss MSU beauty pageant to fundraise for the construction of a theatre house.

The pageant, running under the theme Beauty with Brains, The Face of MSU, will see a bevy of 18 models take to the ramp at Midlands Hotel. Sharon Chokudza, who is part of the organising team, said preparations for the event were at an advanced stage.
“Although we have organised this pageant to raise funds for construction of a theatre house, this will also be a platform for students to showcase more than what they can do with their books,” Chokudza said.
“The pageant is open to anyone. Students will pay $3 while none students are expected to pay $5.”
Apart from the modelling extravaganza, entertainment will be provided by dancehall chanters — Seh Calaz, Lady Squanda, Jah Child, Terminator and Rick Fire while DJs Teco and Tanto will be on the decks.

In a recent interview at the screening of Vhitori Entertainment’s film Kumasowe at the institution, MSU head of film and theatre arts Ephraim Vhutuza said film and theatre must be taken seriously as it prepared students for self-employment.
“Theatre has always been there, but there are misconceptions that it is for academic failures,” Vhutuza said.
“Parents must encourage and support their children to take up theatre arts seriously.”
The project is being conducted in partnership with the Culture Fund of Zimbabwe, that will provide shooting equipment, and Zimbabwe Association of Children and Young People.
