The court heard when Balami set ablaze the cabin, his wife, whose details were not made available in court papers, was inside together with the couple’s two minor children.

According to the State papers, the incident, which shocked many Budiriro 4 residents, occurred on May 2 this year at house number 2603.

The court heard on the day in question, Balami approached his wife and asked for 50 cents from her, but she told him she did not have any money.

This, however, did not go down well with Balami who then became furious and violent.

The State alleges he then walked out of their house and closed the door behind him after which he then went on to set fire to their cabin while his wife and the two minor children were inside.

The court heard the three were rescued by members of the public and neighbours who then took them to the police station leading to Balami’s arrest. He was remanded in custody to May 19.
