Five people died on the spot while one died on admission at United Bulawayo Hospitals (UBH). Witnesses said a Honda Fit carrying six people burst its rear left tyre resulting in the driver losing control and encroaching into the lane of oncoming traffic.

The Nissan Sylphy Bluebird that was travelling towards Gweru from Bulawayo with five people on board reportedly hit the left side of the Honda Fit before rolling several times and landing by the road side.

Iven Sibindi, an eye witness said: “We heard the blare and rushed to the scene where we saw a Honda Fit on the road side with four people dead and the driver crying in agony. “The Nissan remained on the road with the driver already dead. The accident was terrible and we had to remove the cars from the road and the police were so helpful.”

According to eye witnesses, four passengers in the Honda Fit reportedly died on the spot with the driver the only survivor.
