Hardly a year after his appointment Vice President Phelekezela Mphoko has clocked more than 287 days at the Rainbow hotel executive room at a cost of $403 per night for two including bed and breakfast.

NewsDay’s investigations reveal that the Vice President’s stay at the five star hotel has gobbled up at least $157 000 dollars since he moved in mid-December last year soon after assuming office.

Government, which has been hard hit by a shrinking revenue base as the economy continues to nosedive, will soon undertake civil service reforms, particularly rationalisation of the size of its bloated professional bureaucracy and wage bill.

Ironically the amount the VP has spent so far can pay over 400 civil servants.
