Mayor David Coltart has joined the rest of the city in mourning former councillor and renowned businessman Mohammed Esat who died Sunday aged 80.
In his condolence message, Coltart described Esat as a respected businessman, philanthropist and public servant who left a lasting mark in the city.
Esat served as councillor for Ward One from 1995 to 2003, during which he sat on several committees including finance and development; audit; environmental management and engineering services; future water supplies; and the water action committee.
The city fathers said Esat would also be remembered for his contribution to the growth and development of Bulawayo through both business, community upliftment and employment creation through Esats Shops.
Beyond local government, Esat served in various professional and civic bodies, including the Bulawayo Publicity Association and other business and development institutions.
He also served as a member of the Local Authorities Pension Fund Board of Trustees between 1996 and 1999.
