THE Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans Association (ZNLWVA) has said it is still consulting members on proposed constitutional amendments, rejecting claims by State media that former freedom fighters are backing changes critics warn could pave way for a life presidency.

Reports alleged that ZNLWVA secretary-general Sam Parerenyatwa endorsed the Bill during a meeting in Harare last week.

However, in a statement yesterday, ZNLWVA national secretary for information and publicity Cornelius Muwoni said the association had not yet taken a position.

“The correct position of ZNLWVA, as articulated by our national chairman Cde Cephas Ncube, our national secretary-general Cde Sam Parerenyatwa and our national spokesperson Cde Cornelius Muwoni, is that ZNLWVA is still consulting its membership. Our position shall be pronounced soon after the consultations,” the statement said.

Muwoni added that the comments reported by media outlets were made during the Thursday, March 12, 2025, meeting and that additions made to interviews with ZBC and The Herald misrepresented the association’s position.

“We note with grave concern the additions done to our interviews to suit the desired narratives of the reporters,  which is not only creating confusion within our membership, but failing to advance the national interests of both the ZBC and The Herald,” he said.
