BY SILISIWE MABALEKA A 59-YEAR-OLD farmer from Kensington’s Plot B in Hope Valley, Bulawayo is in trouble after his service pistol mysteriously went missing.

Mathew Sibanda appeared before Bulawayo provincial magistrate Nobuhle Ndlovu last Friday to answer to a charge of failure to secure a firearm. He was not asked to plead to the charge.

Sibanda was remanded out of custody to July 21 for commencement of trial.

Prosecutor Portia Mshungu said allegations were that on June 28, Sibanda put his licensed 9mm Noringo pistol, serial number 835767 in a satchel and placed it behind the driver’s seat of his motor vehicle, a Toyota Land cruiser, while he was in Lupane. The pistol had a magazine with eight rounds of ammunition.

Sibanda drove from Lupane to Bulawayo and arrived the same evening.

Upon arrival, he checked for the satchel that contained the firearm and discovered that it was missing. He then made a report to the police and was arrested for failing to secure his firearm.
