The surpise announcement by Tourism minister Walter Mzembi that he is agitating for the legalisation of shebeens and rebrand them as ‘home hospitality centres’ has sparked intense debate among Zimbabweans.

Some feel the move has the potential to increase crime and ‘immorality’ in the high density suburbs where these shebeens, or home beer and entertainment parlours, are located.
Others however think this is a move that is long overdue.
