South Africa-based Zimbabwean musician Darlington “Mhofela” Tanganyika is set to release his fourth studio album titled Spiritual Calling, marking another milestone in a career deeply rooted in faith and personal revelation.

Tanganyika, who fronts The Journey Band, has previously released three albums — Rwendo, Mhaiyo and Nhiyo. Over the years, his music has evolved from personal reflection to what he describes as a divine assignment.

Reflecting on his spiritual journey, Tanganyika said his calling was born out of a period of deep struggle.

“God creates a person already holding their gifts within them. It then requires faith for one to discover why they were created and what they are meant to achieve on earth. These revelations come through faith in Him,” he said.

He revealed that in 2015, after going through physical and emotional challenges, he dedicated himself to intense prayer — a decision that changed the course of his life.

“In 2015, after experiencing distress in my body and life, I gave myself time for serious prayer. It reached a point where I heard the Lord calling me to serve Him through singing. Many things happened along the way which led me to choose Rwendo (Journey) as the title of my first album. At times, it felt like I was losing my mind from fear and confusion, but the direction came from above, from God,” he said.

Tanganyika expressed gratitude to individuals who played a pivotal role in shaping his music career, including the late music icon Dorothy Masuka and Bazel Makombe.

“I thank the Creator who connected me with the late Dorothy Masuka and Bazel Makombe. My heart found peace through them. Many thanks to Commando Dumisani for recording my first album,” he added.

After Rwendo, he continued his musical path with Mhaiyo and later Nhiyo. He has also released several singles, including a tribute track to his role model, the late  Oliver Mtukudzi, titled Matitorera.

Explaining the inspiration behind his forthcoming album Spiritual Calling, Tanganyika described himself as a messenger with a divine mandate.

“I am Pasipamire — I rise from Mapungubwe to build a wall; I am a messenger sent to sing. I dream dreams that I cannot interpret or even find someone to interpret for me. Therefore, I will preach through those dreams which come from the Lord, and perhaps they carry salvation,” he said.

With Spiritual Calling, Tanganyika says he aims to deliver music that not only entertains but ministers to the soul.

The musician also revealed that he will soon travel to Zimbabwe to promote the forthcoming album, reconnect with his home audience and share the message behind his spiritually inspired project.

As anticipation builds, fans can expect an album anchored in faith, testimony and a deep sense of purpose — hallmarks that have defined Darlington “Mhofela” Tanganyika’s musical journey.
