HARARE, Apr. 17 (NewsDay Live) – Zimbabwe international forward Tawanda Maswanhise has cemented his status as one of the Scottish Premiership’s most dangerous attackers after being named in the PFA Scotland Team of the Season.
The 23-year-old winger’s explosive form has made him the talisman of a resurgent Motherwell F.C. side, earning the respect of his peers in a campaign in which he has shattered personal and club records.
Maswanhise is one of five Motherwell players named in the prestigious league XI, marking a historic milestone for the Steelmen. In an official statement, the club said it was the first time in over a decade that they have had such strong representation.
“For the first time since 2012/13, Motherwell have more than one player in the PFA Team of the Season,” the club said. “Calum Ward, Paul McGinn, Elliot Watt, Elijah Just and Tawanda Maswanhise have all been voted by their fellow professionals as part of the best XI players in the William Hill Premiership this season.”
The Warriors star has evolved rapidly from a promising talent into a clinical finisher. With 17 goals in 30 league matches, he is currently locked in a fierce Golden Boot race with Lawrence Shankland and Benjamin Nygren.
Across all competitions, his tally stands at an impressive 22 goals — a return that has seen him join the club’s elite 20-goal group at Fir Park alongside icons Michael Higdon and Willie Pettigrew.
His blend of pace, strength and composure has proven a nightmare for defences throughout the 2025/26 season.
Beyond the league-wide recognition, Maswanhise is in line for a triple sweep at Motherwell’s end-of-season awards, having been nominated for Player of the Year, Young Player of the Year and Goal of the Season. His Goal of the Season nominations include strikes against Morton and Kilmarnock, underlining his ability to produce moments of quality.

While Maswanhise has been the focal point, he has been supported by a strong core. He shares Team of the Season honours with goalkeeper Calum Ward, captain Paul McGinn, midfielder Elliot Watt and attacker Elijah Just.
However, it is Maswanhise’s meteoric rise that has captured attention — and could trigger transfer interest. The forward was linked with moves to Celtic F.C. and Rangers F.C. during the January window, and Motherwell may face a battle to retain him when the summer transfer window opens.
