Chevrons set Oman a huge target

Zimbabwe batting stalwart Sean Williams on Thursday belted his third century of the International Cricket Council World Cup qualifying tournament as the southern African country set Oman a winning target of 333 in their first Super Six stage match at Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo.   This is the Chevrons’ first match in Bulawayo having played all their group matches in Harare and they will look to add to their points tally which was at four points going into this encounter.   Williams, arguably the highest run scorer of the tournament, fought as his partners struggled scoring 143 runs from just 103 balls, hitting 14 boundaries, and heaving three maximums.   He collaborated with Sikandar Raza for a 102 fourth wicket partnership with the latter falling for 42 while Luke Jongwe came and scored a quick-fire 43 to help Zimbabwe set the mammoth target.   Williams benefitted from the gift of three lives before he became one of Fayaz Butt’s four victims.   Openers Joylord Gumbie and Craig Ervine managed 21 and 25 respectively while Wessley Madhevere battled for 23 off 42 balls.
