Gwanda Town Council in partnership with the department of Veterinary Services will carry out a dog vaccination programme beginning tomorrow to curb rising cases of rabies in the Matabeleland South provincial capital.

“Rabies vaccination will commence at 8am. A fee of US$1 will be collected per dog to be vaccinated,” reads in part a notice dated April 16 by town clerk Priscilla Nkala.

“Dog owners are required by law to have their dogs vaccinated against rabies disease at the age of three months then re-vaccinated at the age of 12 months.

“Thereafter, dog owners are required to have their dogs vaccinated against rabies disease annually.” She said centres for the programme are Spitzkop Business Centre, Spitzkop North Business Centre, Phakama Business centre, Ultra High business Centre, Jahunda Business Centre and the Veterinary Services district offices.
