DeMar DeRozan had a historic night for him as he scored 38 points in the Chicago Bulls’ 125-118 win Wednesday night over the Sacramento Kings, the player who will start next Sunday’s NBA All-Star Game scored 38 points.

In doing so, DeRozan became the first player in NBA history to score at least 35 points and make at least half of his shots from the field in seven consecutive games, when he had only six and was tied with legendary Hall of Fame centre Wilt Chamberlain, who did it twice during his career.

During the game against the Kings, DeRozan hit 16 of his 27 attempts from the field.

“As a kid, as a fan of the history of the game, being in the league as long as I’ve been in this league, things like that continue to make me even more humble,” DeRozan said.

“Being an NBA player and being able to have the privilege to be able to be able to play this long and have these opportunities, man, it’s something I never take for granted.

And the crazy thing is I felt like I missed eight easy shots I normally would have made.”

As if that milestone wasn’t enough, DeRozan also put his name next to that of the Bulls’ — and for many in the entire NBA — a

ll-time leading scorer by matching Michael Jordan’s franchise mark of eight straight games scoring at least 30 points.

Other standout players for the Bulls were Coby White, with a season-high 31 points, and Nikola Vucevic with a double-double of 21 points and 10 rebounds.

With this result, Chicago (38-21) accumulated its fifth consecutive win and remained alone in first place in the Eastern Conference, while Sacramento (22-38) is ranked #13 in the Western Conference.

The next game for the Bulls will be next Thursday, February 24 when they host the Atlanta Hawks after the All-Star Game break.

For their part, the Kings will return to the court that same day to host the Denver Nuggets. — Marca.
