THE National Building Society (NBS) team has been crowned winners of the 2026 Institute of Bankers of Zimbabwe (IOBZ) Interbank Quiz Competition, held in Harare on Thursday night, after outperforming more than 15 competing teams.

First Capital Bank Zimbabwe took second place, while NMB Bank finished third in a contest that brought together banking professionals from across the industry.

Speaking at the event, IOBZ chairman Tapera Mushoriwa described the competition as one of the institute’s flagship platforms for intellectual engagement.

“This event, one of the three major highlights on our annual calendar, offers us a valuable opportunity to step away from our daily operational demands and engage in a genuine exercise of the intellect,” he said.

“Each team here today represents the intellectual strength, innovation, and absolute professionalism that drives the banking industry in Zimbabwe.

“The Interbank Quiz Competition reminds us that banking is not only about dollars, ledgers and transactions, but also about connecting and engaging beyond the office.”

“This year’s contest has been more dynamic and exciting than ever, and it is encouraging to see the field continue to expand, reflecting a sector that is constantly growing and adapting.”

IOBZ vice chairman Elisha Chibvuri said the event highlighted the core skills that define the banking profession.

“Tonight’s competition was more than just a quiz; it was a vibrant showcase of analytical ability, composure under pressure, and collaborative teamwork,” he said.
