Triathlon Zimbabwe successfully hosted their inaugural fundraising golf event, aimed at assisting local triathletes fly the country's flag in international events, at Borrowdale Brooke last week.

The event was graced by the country's top female triathlete Andie Kuipers who is based in the US.

Kuipers is currently in the country where she is set to take part in the  Bonaqua Africa Triathlon Cup which takes place at Troutbeck in Nyanga tomorrow.

The 21-year-old athlete is also looking to garner points towards the Paris Olympic Games qualification. Also present at the Tour Fundraising Golf Day was representatives from the Zimbabwe Olympics Committee.

TZ's Roa Botha was pleased with the success of the event.

"(Friday last week) was our very first Fundraising Golf Day held at the Borrowdale Brooke Golf Estate, even though it was a hot day, fun was had by everyone who came. The Fig and Olive Zimbabwe midway lunch was absolutely delicious," she said.

TZ has a number of international tours set to take place in South Africa and Egypt; and the golf event has been conceived to mobilise funds for such assignments.

Their first tour is scheduled for 3 March 2024 at Maselpoort South Africa, this event is SA’s Youth (Under 13 and Under 15) Championship.

The 2nd event is at Gqeberha South Africa, this event is SA’s Junior (Under 17 and Under 19) Championship. 

Meanwhile TZ have named the team to compete at the 2024 South African Youth Championships to be staged at Maselspoort early next month.

The 12-member team was announced on Thursday last week and is made up of four Under-13 boys, five Under-15 boys and three Under-15 girls.

National coach Pamela Fulton and Laura O'Donoghue, who is the tour manager, will accompany the team.
