Mathokozisa Milling Company has been named the Best Grain Milling Company in Bulawayo, marking a major milestone for the family-owned business as it celebrates 22 years of operations.
The award recognises the company’s growth from a small milling operation established in Pumula Old BC in 2003 into one of Bulawayo’s leading grain processors.
Company director Mthokozisi Sibanda described the recognition as a reward for years of perseverance and discipline in a challenging economic environment.
“We are excited, elated, and feel finally rewarded for our endurance, perseverance, patience, discipline and hard work,” Sibanda said.
Mathokozisa Milling is best known for its Mathokozisa Super Refined Meal brand and has diversified into poultry and retail through businesses including Plot 1010 Chickens, Quickies Meats and Groceries in Kelvin and Quickies Pumula Supermarkets.

The company now operates from a Kelvin North complex near Mpopoma and employs about 40 people across its milling, retail and poultry divisions.
Sibanda said the company’s growth has been driven by a forward integration strategy in which products are sold through its own retail outlets.
“We market and sell our products through our own outlets to retain capital leakages,” he said.
He added that the company continues to face challenges including increased competition and limited access to capital, but remains focused on expansion.
“Our goal is to see ourselves nationally and regionally recognised, employing three times as many people in this city,” Sibanda said.
The company also credited a stable business environment and policies promoting local businesses for helping indigenous enterprises survive.
“It is a lesson we also impart to young and upcoming businesses — that you can be successful without corrupt attitudes,” Sibanda said.
