BULAWAYO, Jul 22 (Southern Eye) - First Lady Auxilia Mnangagwa has donated 800 pairs of bed sheets and 800 pairs of draw sheets to Mpilo Central Hospital, in a move aimed at improving patient welfare.
Bulawayo Provincial Affairs and Devolution secretary Paul Nyoni received the donation on behalf of her proncipal Judith Ncube.
"It is a great honour and privilege to stand before you today as we witness this generous donation of 800 pairs of bed sheets and 800 pairs of draw sheets to Mpilo Central Hospital," Ncube said in a speech read on her behalf.
"On behalf of the government of Zimbabwe, the Ministry of Health and Child Care, the hospital management, staff, and the people we serve, I extend our deepest and most sincere gratitude to Her Excellency, the First Lady, for this remarkable act of compassion and generosity."
Ncube said the donation was a demonstration of love, care and commitment to improving patient welfare at the city's referral hospital.
"Clean, adequate, and quality hospital linen plays a vital role in infection prevention and control, patient comfort, dignity, and the overall quality of healthcare services," she said.

"Her Excellency has consistently demonstrated that leadership is best expressed through service to humanity. Through her many charitable initiatives, she has continued to reach out to the vulnerable and strengthen our national health institutions."
She said the donation was another testament to the First Lady's commitment to the health and well-being of Zimbabweans.
Mpilo acting director of operations Phineas Sithole paid tribute to the First Lady, saying the donation would improve patient care and strengthen community relations.
Mpilo Central Hospital, which serves as a referral centre for the southern region of Zimbabwe, has long faced shortages of .basic supplies including linen, with the hospital administration frequently appealing for public and private sector support to augment government allocations.
