CONFUSION over the Covid 19 vaccination of undocumented citizens has hit vaccination centres were other health workers continue to demand for National Identity cards, in violation to a government directive.
Some Zimbabweans in Budiriro, and other vaccination centers in Harare said they were turned away for not having ID’s which are in short supply as government struggles to meet demand.
Harare City Council has confirmed its adherence with the Government directive on vaccination of undocumented citizens settling the confusion as citizens were turned away before the directive.
However, Harare City council spokesperson Michael Chideme said council centres have instructions to vaccinate anyone who presents themselves even without ID’s.

“We are vaccinating everybody at our centers without discrimination, but we are encouraging people to bring their identity documents for those who are presenting their selves without documents we are vaccinating them as we are want to achieve herd immunity,” Chideme said.
Chideme said those who could have been turned away could have suffered owing to a misunderstanding although council would require identity documents for records.
“Maybe there was a misunderstanding at that center, I am not sure, ID’s are needed to help with records and data collections although we vaccinate everyone,” said Chideme.
To date, a total of 2, 4 million people have been vaccinated against Covid 19 as government pushes to vaccinate over 10 million people in an effort to achieve herd immunity by December.
