Manica Diamonds forced a share of the spoils in their Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match against hosts Triangle at Gibbo Stadium yesterday.

With the result, the diamond miners stayed 5th on the log, a rung above their opponents which did no favour to either side’s chances of staying in the title hunt.

Triangle opened the scoring out of nothing and on the cusp of halftime after Russel Madamombe headed home from a Misheck Ngwenya cross with Manica Diamonds goalkeeper Jorum Muchambo rooted on the goal line.

The visitors responded 15 minutes after the break, with substitute Tichaona Mabvura making an instant impact as he sliced through the Triangle defense before feeding Talent Chamboko who did the move justice by slotting in an equaliser.

The home side created better chances and will feel they let this one slip.

Coach Jairos Tapera was pleased with the result, admitting that their opponents are better equipped.

“Sometimes you just have to look at your squad and the squad of the team that you are playing. They are a team full if quality. We did well, we were organised especially at defending set pieces and we managed to contain them. With a bit of luck, we could have won the match,” he said.

On the other hand, Johanisi Nhumwa praised his charges but felt they could have done better with chance conversion.

“We approached the game on a high note and we create a lot of chances. In football you don’t always score all the chances that you create. I am happy with the effort by the boys and I hope we can take all three points in the next match. I am happy for the players, everything is looking up and we look forward to the next match,” Nhumwa said.

Manica Diamonds are now 15 points behind leaders FC Platinum while Triangle are a single point further adrift.
