Zimbabwe's music industry is set to unite for a fundraising concert aimed at helping veteran music promoter Boss Khumalo, affectionately known as Boss K, undergo life-changing surgery after he sustained severe injuries in a violent machete attack.
The Boss Khumalo Must Walk Heroes Special Fundraising Show will be held next Saturday at Padziva Camp and Caravan in Dz Extension, Harare, with internationally acclaimed musician Nyasha Chikono headlining a star-studded line-up.
Boss K is widely respected in Zimbabwe's music industry for his contribution to the growth of sungura music.
Over the years, he has managed several prominent artistes, including JSK Chibadura and Tembo Brothers, while playing a key role in promoting and nurturing numerous musicians.
On December 25, 2024, Boss K was allegedly attacked by two men in Hatcliffe, Harare, who struck him with a machete, severing part of his upper spine.
The injuries left him wheelchair-bound and in need of specialised surgery.
Organisers of the fundraising concert say the objective is to raise money towards his medical treatment and rehabilitation, giving him the opportunity to walk again and continue contributing to the country's music industry.
Boss K is credited with introducing several Zimbabwean musicians to international artiste Nyaka-Chana, among them Jah Prayzah, Andy Muridzo, Shinsoman, Progress Chipfumo, Junior PC, Tendai Dembo, Baba Harare, JSK Chibadura and Tembo Brothers.
Nyaka-Chana, who headlines the music show, urged music lovers to support the initiative.
"I am deeply honoured to be part of this fundraising show for Boss K,” he said.
“He has dedicated his life to uplifting musicians and creating opportunities for many of us in the industry.
“This is our chance to give back to someone who has given so much.
“I invite everyone to come and support this noble cause so that Boss K can receive the surgery he needs and hopefully walk again.”
The concert will also feature performances by Kinnah, Sir Gono, Allan Chimbetu, Mostaff, Khonangale, Portifa Mopo, Wasu Dacoda, Tendai Dembo, JSK Chibadura, Junior PC and Kapfupi, among other artistes.
Organisers said every ticket purchased will contribute towards restoring the health of a man many describe as one of the unsung heroes behind Zimbabwe's music industry.
