MALAYSIA-BASED Zimbabwean DJ and entrepreneur DJ Kush is set to embark on a major international tour of Europe from late July to mid-August, a career-defining milestone that will see him perform in Germany, Spain, the Netherlands and Malaysia.
Born Kudakwashe Mutomba, the award-winning DJ said he was excited about the opportunity and grateful to the promoters who had organised the tour.
He described the European circuit as a significant breakthrough in his career and vowed to fly the Zimbabwean flag high on an international entertainment stage, largely dominated by Nigerian and South African artists.
“It is a great honour to be recognised and given the opportunity to showcase my craft on the international stage,” he said.
“Zimbabwean entertainers are increasingly earning recognition abroad, and that is a positive sign for the growth of our creative industry.
“We are beginning to make our mark internationally, and I am proud to be part of that movement.
“This tour is not only about DJ Kush—it is about showcasing Zimbabwean talent to the world.”
One of the highlights of the tour will be his performance at the Moto Moto Music Festival at the Südebrücke in Cologne, Germany, where he is expected to share the stage with some of Africa’s leading DJs and performers.
DJ Kush, who specialises in Afro-house, Afrobeats and Amapiano, has spent the past 15 years living in Malaysia, where he pursued his academic career while steadily building his reputation as an international entertainer.
He holds a Master’s degree in Business Management.
Over the years, he has shared the stage with some of Africa’s biggest music stars, including Davido, Shimza and Major League DJz, performances that have helped establish him as one of Zimbabwe’s emerging international DJs.
Away from the turntables, DJ Kush is also an accomplished businessman.
He is the chief executive officer of Midridge Entertainment Group of Companies, an entertainment enterprise with interests spanning events promotion, hospitality and nightlife.
Currently back in Zimbabwe, he is putting the final touches to the launch of a premium nightclub at Long Cheng Plaza in Harare.
He said that the venue is expected to become one of the city’s premier entertainment destinations, with plans to host international artists and DJs every month as part of its programming.
“Our vision is to create a world-class entertainment experience in Zimbabwe by bringing internationally acclaimed artists to perform alongside local talent.
“We want to create opportunities for Zimbabwean artists to network, collaborate and grow while giving fans premium entertainment experiences.”
Last week, DJ Kush thrilled hundreds of music lovers with an energetic performance of Afro House playlist at the Afro Frenz Festival held at Art Farm, where he joined several leading Afro-house DJs in entertaining revellers.
With an expanding international profile, a growing business portfolio and an ambitious vision for Zimbabwe’s entertainment industry, DJ Kush’s forthcoming European tour is expected to further cement his status as one of the country's most promising global music exports.
