The Africa Women Summit (AWS) Zimbabwe Chapter has unveiled its newly appointed executive team, ushering in a new era of women’s leadership, empowerment, and transformation in the country.
Led by president Sibonokuhle Buhlungu, the executive team brings together accomplished women from diverse professional backgrounds who are committed to advancing women’s empowerment, youth development, entrepreneurship, and community transformation across Zimbabwe and the African continent.
The announcement was made under the organisation’s guiding mantra, “Empowered Women, Transforming Africa,” with the chapter pledging to champion impactful programmes aimed at uplifting women and girls through leadership, education, economic empowerment, and advocacy initiatives.
Speaking after the unveiling, Buhlungu said her vision was to build a united platform that empowers women to become drivers of economic growth, community development, and continental transformation.
“Our vision is to create a powerful network of African women who are not only empowered personally, but who are also equipped to transform their communities and influence future generations positively. We want women to occupy spaces of leadership, innovation, and decision-making while uplifting others along the way,” said Buhlungu.
She said the organisation would focus on programmes that directly impact women and girls through education support, entrepreneurship, mentorship, menstrual health awareness, and youth empowerment initiatives.
“We believe every woman has the potential to lead and inspire change. Through partnerships, skills development, and community engagement, we want to ensure that no girl or woman is left behind,” she added.
The newly appointed executive team includes Daisy Payne (vice-president No 1), Tendai Chatikobo (vice-president No 2), Trish Makaka (treasurer), Paidamoyo Maringwa (secretary-general), and Thandi Gondo responsible for youth leadership.
Other members of the leadership team are Iris Mhlanga (head of programmes and opportunities), Chipo Mahamba (deputy head of programmes and opportunities), Letwiner Nyagano (senior technical advisor), Patricia Nyamugure (committee member), Biata Nyamayaro (committee member), and Brenda Ndlovu (committee member).
The organisation said the diverse leadership team reflects its vision of inclusivity, professionalism, and collective action in tackling issues affecting women and communities.
The Africa Women Summit Zimbabwe Chapter is expected to roll out several national programmes focusing on menstrual health, youth empowerment, entrepreneurship, education, and advocacy against gender-based violence.
With the theme, “United in Purpose. Driven by Impact. Leading Africa Forward,” the newly appointed executive team expressed optimism about building a stronger network of empowered women capable of influencing positive change across the continent.
