Ecobank Zimbabwe, in collaboration with the Organisation for Women in International Trade Zimbabwe, is set to host a vibrant marketplace event dedicated to women-owned and women-led businesses.

Scheduled for next Saturday at the Ecobank Headquarters in Borrowdale from 10am to 4pm, the open-to-all event forms part of celebrations marking International Women's Day and aims to spotlight women’s achievements in business.

OWIT Zimbabwe President, Buhlebenkosi Ostlea Nyathi, commended Ecobank for supporting the initiative, noting that it complements ongoing programmes focused on empowering women in enterprise.

“This gesture highlights Ecobank’s commitment to empowering women in business. It aligns perfectly with our vision to promote excellence and international trade among women, creating opportunities for them to showcase their products and connect with broader markets,” she said.

“We commend Ecobank for consistently supporting women through tailored programmes that have made a meaningful impact on women entrepreneurship in Zimbabwe. This marketplace follows a similar successful event we co-hosted in 2024, and we are pleased to see our partnership continue to grow.”

At the heart of the marketplace day is the opportunity for women entrepreneurs to exhibit and sell their products to a diverse audience. The inclusive approach is designed to foster community support for women-led enterprises.

“Exhibition is free, and we are encouraged by the overwhelming response from women entrepreneurs who have embraced this opportunity. The marketplace reflects endless possibilities and provides a platform for participants to showcase and sell their products to the public,” Nyathi added.

“The event also offers a valuable learning platform for those interested in entrepreneurship through idea exchange and experience sharing. Whether you are already in business or aspiring to start one, this marketplace provides inspiration and practical insights.”

Nyathi revealed that exhibition spaces are already fully booked, reflecting strong interest and enthusiasm among women entrepreneurs.

“We are excited to see women come together to inspire one another and demonstrate their capabilities. At the previous event, we witnessed a wide range of high-quality products at affordable prices from women-led businesses. I encourage the public to attend, support local artisans, and network.”

She urged consumers to actively support women-owned businesses.

“When you support women, you support local communities. Every purchase contributes to family livelihoods, promotes women’s economic empowerment, and strengthens the broader Zimbabwean economy.”

The event promises to be both educational and inspiring, offering attendees an opportunity to learn from experienced entrepreneurs while purchasing unique products at special prices. Guests are free to attend throughout the day or at their convenience.

The Ecobank and OWIT Zimbabwe initiative has also received recognition from key stakeholders, including government officials. Monica Mutsvangwa, Minister of Women Affairs, Community and Small to Medium Enterprises Development, previously graced the event and commended its positive impact on women entrepreneurs.

Nyathi also highlighted the importance of the informal sector, where many women entrepreneurs operate, calling for collective support from all stakeholders.

“The informal economy in Zimbabwe is significant, contributing over 60% to GDP and employing more than five million people, the majority of whom are women,” she said.

“We call on all stakeholders to show solidarity by supporting this marketplace initiative. These businesses sustain families, empower women, and contribute meaningfully to the national economy. Come and celebrate the queens of Zimbabwe by supporting their enterprises and discovering unique products from these remarkable women.”
