ZIMBABWE international Marshall Munetsi has been tipped for a big money move in the summer after he was named among the five breakout star in the French top flight League this season.

Munetsi has already recorded his best season in France in terms of goals and assists this year scoring six and creating three so far.

The 26-year-old versatile player has shone playing in a more advanced role in midfield in the last few games scoring three goals in his last six matches as an attacking midfielder.

Also making the list for the season's breakout players by Ligue1.com is RC Lens defender Kevin Danso,Habib Diallo from RC Strasbourg Alsace, FC Lorient's Enzo Le Feé and Toulouse midfielder Branco van den Boomen.

But it is Munetsi who stock continues to rise in French football after his club reportedly rebuffed an approach from English Premier League side Brighton and Hove Albion who were keen to replace Yves Bissouma who had been snapped up by Tottenham last summer.

Reims president Jean-Pierre Caillot declared that the player was ‘untransferable’ since he had just extended his contract with the club and the new contract will run until 2026.

It is interesting to see whether Reims would be able to ward of suitors for £7 million rated player in the next transfer window.

"On-loan Arsenal hotshot Folarin Balogun has dominated the headlines in Will Still’s impressive Stade de Reims team this season, but Zimbabwe international midfielder Munetsi  has also been outstanding. Indeed, his tally of six goals makes him the Champagne club’s joint second-best marksman behind Balogun, who has 18. The 26-year-old is a powerful, rampaging presence in midfield, precious going forward as well as when it comes to doing the dirty work," Ligue1.com wrote last week.

"Signed from South African giants Orlando Pirates in 2019, Munetsi last year extended his contract at the Stade Auguste-Delaune until 2026. That means a big offer would likely be needed to tempt Reims to part company with a man who recently joined the Global Player Council of FIFPro, the global players’ union," the French league publication added.

In the January transfer window AFC Bournemouth were said to be vying for the player’s signature as well as Championship sides Watford and Burnley.

One of the form side in Ligue 1, Reims have put up a 19-match unbeaten run in the division this season stretching from early October last year until a 2 - 1 defeat to Marseille on March 19, 2023.

The club is currently sitting in seventh place with 46 points from 29 matches, nine matches before the season ends.

Munetsi has been one of the club's top performers for Reims this season and will be hoping to further improve his statistics in the the club's quest for European football next season.

Reims hosts Brest this afternoon.
