An international organisation, Hivos, has proposed a partnership with the Bulawayo City Council on urban future farming projects, latest council minutes reveal.

Bulawayo director of housing and community services, Dictor Khumalo, said a concept note had been received from Runyararo Chibota, the regional coordinator of Hivos.

“Hivos was now proposing to scale up its operations in the city through implementing the urban Futures Project: Youth Action for Inclusive, Climate Resilience cities project," the minutes read.

“The proposed project was aimed at contributing to a more inclusive, climate-resilient urban food systems and agriculture."

Hivos said it will work with multiple stakeholders such as players in the food value chain, agronomists, entrepreneurs, vocational training centres, nutritionists, business hubs and civil society organisations.

Council welcomed the proposed partnership saying it dovetails with the city’s ‘vision of being smart and transformative.’
