London-based investment bank Cavendish says Zimbabwe-focused gold producer Caledonia Mining Corporation could be worth more than US$1 billion if markets fully recognise the value of its underlying assets.

Caledonia’s market capitalisation stood at US$453,13 million on the London Stock Exchange at Tuesday’s closing share price of 1 750 pence.

In an analysis of Caledonia’s first-quarter results for the period ended March 31, 2026, Cavendish argued that the firm continues to trade at a significant discount relative to industry peers despite strong fundamentals and growth prospects.

“Our forward-looking sum-of-the-parts based target price for Caledonia is 4 050 pence/share fully diluted (previously: 4 030p/share),” Cavendish said.

At that valuation, Caledonia’s implied market capitalisation would surge to approximately US$1,04 billion.

The investment bank said its assessment was based on the combined value of Caledonia’s mining assets, cash holdings and debt position. Driving the bullish outlook is the Bilboes gold project, which Caledonia expects to commission in 2028.

Bilboes is projected to produce up to five tonnes of gold annually, potentially transforming the firm’s production profile and strengthening its attractiveness to larger mining investors.

Cavendish believes the project could significantly narrow the valuation gap between Caledonia and comparable international gold producers.

According to the bank, Caledonia continues to trade below peer averages across key industry metrics despite strong cash generation, operational stability and visible production growth.

“In our view, Caledonia’s relative low ratings coupled with the contiguous Bilboes-Motapa projects…could see the company become a target, particularly for Chinese, African or Turkish entities,” Cavendish said.

The bank added that Caledonia’s long operating history in Zimbabwe gives it a strategic advantage as it expands into the country’s largely underexplored greenstone belts, which remain among the most prospective gold-rich geological zones in Southern Africa.
