STANBIC Bank Zimbabwe has extended its Scholarship Fund to Mashonaland West, adding five students from Chinhoyi University of Technology (CUT) in a move that broadens the programme’s national reach.

The latest intake brings the total number of beneficiaries to 42 since the initiative was launched five years ago, with students now drawn from Manicaland, Midlands, Matabeleland and Mashonaland West.

The CUT rollout follows closely on the introduction of the same programme at National University of Science and Technology in Matabeleland Province last week, adding to existing partnerships with Africa University and Midlands State University.

Through the expansion, Stanbic is deepening its investment in education as part of its broader corporate social investment strategy, with a focus on widening access to higher education for disadvantaged students.

Stanbic Bank Zimbabwe head of brand and marketing Tariro Memo said the institution places strong emphasis on education as a driver of opportunity and economic growth.

“Stanbic Bank is committed to promoting economic growth through empowering young people through education. We are therefore proud to partner with an institution such as Chinhoyi University of Technology, which is known for nurturing innovation, entrepreneurship, and technology-driven solutions that contribute meaningfully to national development,” Memo said.

She said the bank would support five CUT students who demonstrate strong academic performance but face financial barriers to accessing tertiary education.

“The programme has also been designed with inclusion in mind and will see three scholarships being awarded to female students and two to male students, with priority given to students who are orphaned or from economically disadvantaged backgrounds,” she said.

Each beneficiary will receive full tuition, accommodation and meals for the duration of their studies, allowing them to focus on their academic work.

In addition, each student will be provided with a laptop to support their studies in an increasingly digital learning environment.

CUT acting vice chancellor William Musekiwa Goriwondo said the initiative highlights the impact of collaboration between universities and the corporate sector.

“On behalf of the Chinhoyi University of Technology community, I extend our sincere appreciation to Stanbic Bank Zimbabwe Limited for its generosity and commitment to supporting higher education. This initiative represents not merely financial assistance, but a meaningful investment in human potential and the future development of our nation,” Goriwondo said.

He added that the programme would help bridge funding gaps that often prevent capable students from completing their studies.

“Allow me once again to express our profound gratitude to Stanbic Bank Zimbabwe Limited for believing in the potential of our students and for supporting this institution. This partnership clearly demonstrates the transformative power of collaboration between academia and industry. Together, we are not merely funding education, we are shaping futures,” Goriwondo said.
