The controversial resumption of the match between Hardrock and Dynamos will go ahead as scheduled tomorrow after the Zimbabwe Football Association Appeals Committee dismissed the Kwekwe-based side's urgent request for a stay of execution.

Hardrock had lodged an appeal against a ruling that ordered them to, among other punitive measures, replay the final 14 minutes of their violently abandoned fixture against Dynamos.

The legal maneuver had briefly plunged the resumption—scheduled to take place at the neutral Baobab Stadium—into deep uncertainty.

However, the Premier Soccer League (PSL) confirmed to NewsDaySport this afternoon that the fixture will go ahead as scheduled after "the ZIFA Appeals Committee dismissed Hardrock FC’s request for a stay of execution pending appeal."

"Accordingly, the directive issued by the Premier Soccer League (PSL) Disciplinary Committee on 30 June 2026 remains in force, and the fixture between Hardrock FC and Dynamos FC, which was abandoned on 24 May 2026, shall be completed in accordance with the judgement and subsequent PSL directive on Thursday, 09 July 2026 at 1300hrs at Baobab Stadium," the PSL stated.

The league was careful to clarify that the broader legal battle is not yet over, adding: "This decision relates only to the request for stay of execution pending appeal and is not a determination of the merits of the appeal, which remain pending."

The unprecedented crisis stems from the chaotic scenes on May 24, at Chahwanda Stadium, where violent pitch invasions and significant damage to property forced the referee to abandon the match in the 76th minute with the score locked at 1-1.

The PSL Disciplinary Committee subsequently found both clubs guilty of causing the abandonment, hitting each with a US 5,000 fine alongside a ban from all football activities for the remainder of the season.

Logistically, the 14-minute replay presents a unique challenge.

The match must resume under the exact conditions in which it was halted, featuring the same players, match officials, and technical staff listed on the original team sheet. While both teams had already exhausted their permitted substitutions before the violence erupted, regulations will allow them to replace players who have since been injured or have left their respective clubs, provided the replacements are drawn from the original substitutes' list.

Tactical continuity will also be tested, particularly in the Dynamos dugout. Team manager Ronald Sibanda is expected to take charge of the brief encounter following the departure of head coach Genesis Mangombe. Dynamos’ newly appointed technical advisor, Aristica Cioaba, who enjoyed a glittering debut last weekend by guiding the Glamour Boys to a 4-0 hammering of Agama, is ineligible to sit on the bench for this specific fixture.

Kickoff is set for 1PM.
