HERENTALS Queens seized the top spot in the Zimbabwe Women Premier Soccer League (ZWPSL) on Matchday 6 at Mucheke Stadium in Masvingo on Sunday with a ruthless 10-0 demolition of Rufaro Starlets Academy, leapfrogging Correctional and Platinum Royals on goal difference.
It was a statement performance that underlined "Vagoni Vebasa's" attacking firepower. The weekend also belonged to Caps United Royals, who finally registered their first win of the campaign with a 1-0 derby victory over Cranborne Royals.
Herentals were relentless from the outset. Shyline Dambamuromo opened the scoring in the 20th minute, and Praynance Zvawanda doubled the lead a minute later. Bethel Kondo made it three in the 26th minute before Maudy Mafuruse unleashed a long-range strike to make it 4-0 before halftime.
The second half followed the same pattern. Natasha Benza added a fifth in the 56th minute, and 13-year-old Winnie Mapuwa announced herself with her first goal of the season to make it six. Catherine Gwangwara then scored twice, either side of Kondo’s second goal, with Dambamuromo wrapping up her brace late on to complete the 10-0 rout. A handful of different scorers and a clean sheet took Herentals to 15 points from six games and a staggering +37 goal difference.
The other big talking point came in the Royals derby. Caps United Royals edged Cranborne Royals 1-0 at Stanchart Sports Club to claim their first three points of the season. After a frustrating start, the win eases the pressure and gives the side something tangible to build on as they look to climb away from the lower half of the table.
Elsewhere, Correctional Queens dropped points and their place at the summit after being held 1-1 at home at Wagadhugu Stadium at Chikurubi by Conduit Soccer Academy. The draw leaves them on 16 points but with a +13 goal difference, now sitting second behind Herentals.

With Herentals now top on goal difference and Correctional and Platinum Royals still within reach on 16 points, the title race is wide open heading into Matchday 7.
