Two men, one from Mberengwa and the other one from Shurugwi in the Midlands province, have been arrested on allegations of murder in separate cases involving disputes over a pool token and cigarette lighter.
Midlands provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, confirmed the tragic incidents that occurred at village 2 Greenspan business centre in Mberengwa and Sherekete business centre under Chief Nhema in Shurugwi on July 4 and 5 respectively.
“The arrested suspects are Tapiwa Murozvi Moyo, aged 29, for the Mberengwa case, and John Maketo, aged 30 for the other (Shurugwi) case,” Mahoko said.
Mahoko said in the first case a fight broke out between the now deceased Tawanda Moyo, aged 34 and Murozvi over a pool token during a game at Greenspan.
“Fellow patrons made efforts to stop the fight in vain and Murozvi then hit Moyo with a brick on the head he fell down and died on the spot,” Mahoko said.
“At Sherekete business centre the suspect, Maketo requested a cigarette lighter from the now deceased Chamunorwa Mudzingwa.

“Mudzingwa refused and this angered Maketo, who struck him (Mudzingwa) twice with a machete resulting in the deceased collapsing and dying on the spot.”
Mahoko said investigations are underway and urged the public to desist from engaging in avoidable disputes that lead to unnecessary loss of lives.
