Negotiations between the Ministry of Mines and investors for the Gwayi methane gas project are ongoing, with operations expected to move to Lupane in July.
CEWALE (Siwale) Discovery Investment is currently finalising paperwork and sourcing funds alongside Lupane Methane Gas (LMG).
The company’s executive chairperson Thabani Hove confirmed that while they are not yet on the ground, they hope to resolve administrative hurdles by next month.
Matabeleland North Provincial Affairs minister Richard Moyo described the project as a "game changer" for the region, citing its potential to boost GDP and create employment for local youth.
The project, located in Kusile Rural District’s Siwale ward, aims to generate 5MW within the first two years, eventually expanding to 15MW.
Zimbabwe holds an estimated 40 trillion cubic feet of recoverable gas in the Lupane-Lubimbi area, believed to be the largest deposit in Southern Africa.

Despite being in the pipeline for years without a committed investor, local authorities remain optimistic.
Kusile RDC CEO Sifiso Hadebe indicated that investors are expected to arrive by the end of the month to push the project into its next phase.
