Matabeleland South provincial medical director Andrew Muza has welcomed the move by CURE Children’s Hospital of Zimbabwe to provide free orthopaedic and plastic reconstructive surgeries for children living with disabilities in the province.

In an interview, Muza described the move, made in conjunction with the Ministry of Health and Child Care, as a step towards improving access to care for less privileged children.

“The programme is aimed at raising awareness of CURE hospital activities in the community and also screening for children who have conditions treatable at the hospital,” Muza said.

He highlighted that the facility offers free treatment to its beneficiaries, including surgical care.

“The activity improves access to care for the less privileged children,” he said.

In a statement, CURE Children’s Hospital of Zimbabwe said it has embarked on a programme to provide free medical treatment to children living with disabilities in Matabeleland South province during this month and into nearly the end of June, covering areas such as Plumtree, Gwanda, and other surrounding areas.
