THE National Education Summit Zimbabwe (NESZ) 2026 has officially opened in Bulawayo today, bringing together key stakeholders from across the country to discuss strategies for improving education delivery and increasing investment in the sector.

The four-day summit, being held at the Lakeside Events Centre along Plumtree Road, has attracted delegates from government ministries, schools, development agencies, financial institutions, private companies and international organisations.

Running under the theme, “From Policy to Practice: Driving Innovation and Investment in Zimbabwe’s Education System,” the indaba is expected to address critical issues affecting the country’s education sector, including infrastructure development, digital learning, teacher training and access to quality education.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa is expected to officially address the conference, while businessman Kudakwashe Tagwirei is among the key speakers lined up to deliver presentations during the summit.

Speaking on behalf of Matabeleland South Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution Albert Nguluvhe, provincial administration official Ndodana Dlamini said hosting the summit was significant for the province.

“It is my singular honour and privilege to welcome you all to the province on behalf of the Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Development, Honourable Nguluvhe, and on behalf of the people of Matabeleland South,” Dlamini said.

He stressed that education remained central to Zimbabwe’s long-term economic and social transformation.

“The quality of education we provide today determines the quality of leadership, innovation and prosperity we envisage tomorrow,” he said.

Dlamini noted that schools in Matabeleland South continue to face operational challenges, including drought-induced disruptions and water shortages.

“We face challenges of distance, water scarcity in some areas and climate shocks that sometimes disrupt learning,” he said.

“Yet we are also home to resilient communities, dedicated teachers and learners who excel despite these odds.”

He said the summit provided a platform for stakeholders to exchange ideas and develop practical solutions aimed at strengthening the education sector.

“This summit gives us an opportunity to reflect on realities, share solutions and commit to future-ready schools,” Dlamini said.

He also called for inclusive learning environments that guarantee equal opportunities for all learners.

The summit is being organised by Action for Empowerment Zimbabwe (AEZ) and Business Diary in partnership with the Primary and Secondary Education ministry.

AEZ president Alson Darikayi said the summit will feature policy discussions, investment roundtables and exhibitions focusing on governance, innovation, financing and improving access to education.
