The Tobacco Industry and Marketing Board (TIMB) will conduct natural natural cured virginia (NCV) tobacco sales and biometric grower registration in Bulawayo on May 20 as part of efforts to decentralise tobacco marketing services and improve access for growers in Matabeleland.

The exercise will be held at Hall 1A of the  .

TIMB said the tobacco sales would run concurrently with the ongoing biometric registration programme for tobacco growers.

“On the same day, TIMB will be conducting biometric tobacco grower registration in the same hall from 8am,” the TIMB said in a notice.

“Tobacco growers in Matabeleland whose fingerprints have not yet been captured are encouraged to attend and complete the biometric registration process.”

TIMB said the decentralised tobacco sale is intended to improve convenience for farmers in the region while ensuring broader participation during the marketing season.

“The initiative is part of TIMB’s ongoing commitment to bringing services closer to growers and promoting inclusive participation in the tobacco value chain,” the board said.

“Growers are encouraged to take advantage of the opportunity to market their crop locally while also regularising their registration details through the biometric exercise.”

The board added that the biometric registration programme plays a critical role in strengthening transparency, accountability and traceability within the tobacco sector.

“The biometric registration process enhances grower identification, improves traceability and supports the sustainability of the tobacco industry,” TIMB said.

TIMB urged all affected growers to attend the exercise early and ensure they carry the required registration documents.
