Shurugwi North legislator Joseph Mpasi on Thursday visited exhibition stands for Tongogara Rural District Council and Shurugwi Town Council at the ongoing Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF), as he intensified efforts to attract investment into his constituency.
The premier trade showcase, running under the theme “Connected Economies, Competitive Industries,” was officially opened by the President of Botswana Duma Boko on Thursday afternoon, drawing exhibitors from across Zimbabwe and beyond.
Taking advantage of the high traffic at the exhibition, Mpasi toured the two local authority stands, which are among numerous councils showcasing investment opportunities and development projects at the annual fair.
Tongogara RDC and Shurugwi Town Council both fall under Shurugwi North constituency, although the RDC also covers Shurugwi South.
Mpasi commended the councils for their proactive participation and efforts to market the district as an investment destination.
“I am impressed by the work our local authorities are doing here at ZITF to attract investors into Shurugwi North,” he said.

“Platforms like these are critical for showcasing our potential, and we must fully utilise them.
“As an MP, I am also engaging potential investors, and it is important that we work hand in hand with our local authorities to present a united front that inspires confidence.”
He emphasised the importance of collaboration between his office and local authorities, noting that coordinated efforts would strengthen the district’s investment appeal and accelerate development.
Shurugwi is strategically located in Zimbabwe’s Midlands province, benefiting from its proximity to major cities such as Gweru and key transport routes.
The district is rich in mineral resources, particularly gold, chrome and platinum, making mining one of its major economic drivers.
Local authorities have increasingly been positioning Shurugwi as an emerging investment hub, leveraging platforms like ZITF to attract both domestic and international investors keen on tapping into the district’s natural resources and growth potential.
