Verification visits conducted across four wards in Hwange Central Constituency have confirmed significant progress in the installation of solar-powered boreholes funded under the 2024 Constituency Development Fund (CDF).

The inspections, carried out on Friday, brought together representatives from the office of local legislator Daniel Molokele, ward councillors, ward development committee members, and a representative from Jimmy Jimmy Borehole Company, the contractor responsible for the projects.

An official from the MP’s office described the exercise as a success.

“These verification visits have shown that the CDF projects are making a real difference on the ground, with most of the boreholes now either complete or already serving communities,” the constituency official said.

In Ward 1, borehole installation is nearing completion and is expected to begin supplying water to residents within days.

“Work at Ward 1 is almost complete, and we are confident that the borehole will start serving the community as early as next week,” the constituency statement read.

Wards 4 and 6 have already seen tangible benefits, with fully installed solar-powered boreholes that have been operational since February.

“The boreholes in Wards 4 and 6 have been functional for the past two months and are already easing water challenges for local residents,” the statement read.

In Ward 5, progress had stalled after CDF funds were exhausted, but intervention by the MP ensured completion.

“The project in Ward 5 had been delayed due to funding constraints, but the MP personally stepped in and paid the outstanding US$2 000, allowing work to be finalised,” the constituency office noted.

The delegation later held a consultative meeting with Ward 14 development committee members.

It emerged that the ward—initially earmarked for a borehole under the same programme—had not yet benefited due to depleted funds.

“Ward 14 continues to face serious water shortages, and there is an urgent need to ensure that a borehole is installed as soon as possible,” the statement read.

The MP’s office committed to mobilising additional resources to address the gap.

“We have agreed to source the necessary extra funding so that Ward 14 can also benefit from a solar-powered borehole without further delay,” the MP’s office said.

The CDF initiative is part of broader efforts to improve water access in rural communities, where reliable and sustainable sources remain a critical need.
