A Nkayi man has been remanded in custody after appearing before Plumtree magistrate Joshua Nembaware on theft charges.

Njabulo Ncube (31), from Nyeve village in Chief Skobokobo's area, allegedly stole a Taurus 12v battery valued at US$200 from Redwood Ultra City in Figtree.  The battery has since been recovered.

The court heard that on March 1, 2026, at around 4am, Ncube entered the garage and detached the battery from a generator.

The complainant Caline Moyo (57), a security guard at the garage, witnessed the theft and alerted his colleague Bothwell Tshuma.

Realising he had been seen, Ncube dropped the battery about 50 metres away behind the bar and fled.

The two guards pursued him and managed to apprehend him.  The matter was reported to the police, and Ncube allegedly admitted to the theft during an interview.
