REIGNING soccer star of the year Washington Navaya last Sunday donated to the Missionary Childhood Association (MCA) at St Michaels parish in Ascot, Gweru.
The initiative was driven by the need to support the role MCA plays in fostering values of compassion, service and responsibility among children.
Navaya donated an undisclosed amount of money, a football for the MCA and a printed Navaya T-shirt for the parish priest.
Speaking at the event, a representative and childhood friend of Navaya said: “Our aim is not only to provide material support but also to affirm the dignity and potential of every child.”
“The MCA is shaping young people into compassionate, responsible and faith driven citizens and we are honoured to support that mission.”
Parish priest Reverend Father Alphonse Masuna expressed gratitude towards the footballer’s gesture.

“As we strive to build a community that honours God and cherishes its youth, we are thankful for Navaya’s generous donation, which will aid our efforts in combating drug and substance abuse,” he said.
“This initiative aligns with our church’s mission to nurture the spiritual, emotional and physical well-being of our congregation and the wider community.”
St Michaels parish chairman Taurai Demo said MCA was key in shaping children that made a difference in their communities.
“Navaya’s support reinforces this message and demonstrates to our children that kindness and generosity are not just taught principles but lived values.”
