The Council of Churches in Africa, which ordained 26 bishops in Bulawayo this week, is working on curbing the scourge of false prophets abusing its name.
Speaking to Southern Eye church president Rocky Moyo said their aim was to foster unity among churches and uplift the word of God.
He said the church had also ordained women to foster transparency and openness in the work of God.
“We have realised that some prophets are operating without certificates or licences. We need to assess the spirit that they are using, some are false prophets who rob people hiding behind the name of the church,” Moyo said.
Addressing congregants, Moyo said they should stop entertaining prophets who demand money, adding that some of the pretenders end up raping women in mountains.
“I urge you, especially women, do not be lured or be deceived by these false prophets. They operate surgeries that are not registered.

“Some of you end up being raped by the same prophets who call themselves man of God without ordination.”
He said 200 members also graduated with diplomas after completing three years at the Jefferson Leadership Institute in Bulawayo.
“Some were awarded with certificates which was a move to honour them for the sterling work in God’s vineyard in different categories,” Moyo said.
“There were 12 categories including best churches be it Zion, pentecostal churches ranging from lifetime and humanitarian support.
“We honour different people like journalists, first ladies, presidents and anyone who has done well in life.”
Moyo said the church decided to honour its members after realising that no one cared about the work done by man of God despite that they work tirelessly praying for people sometimes spending sleepless nights preaching the gospel.
“We want a united front in approaching the work of God so as to uplift the work of the living God and create a better generation for the future,” he said.
