BULAWAYO, May 26 (NewsDay Live) — Police in Matabeleland North have arrested a 21-year-old man in connection with a fatal hit-and-run accident along the Cross Dete-Binga Road that left a pedestrian dead.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirmed the arrest of Mike Ndlovu in a statement posted on its official X account.
Police said the accident occurred at about 5 a.m. on May 24, 2026, at the 3km peg along the Cross Dete-Binga Road.
Ndlovu was allegedly driving a blue Nissan X-Trail when he struck a 28-year-old man who was walking along the road.
“The victim died on the spot,” police said.
According to investigators, Ndlovu allegedly fled the scene after the collision without rendering assistance or reporting the accident.

Police said investigations are continuing.
Authorities urged motorists to exercise caution on the roads and to report accidents immediately, warning that fleeing the scene of an accident is a criminal offence.
