President Emmerson Mnangagwa, facing allegations of failing to turn around the fortunes of the economy, told the Zimbabweans that detractors are keen to reverse the gains of independence especially through sanctions.

The President said this while addressing mourners at the burial of the late national hero Major General (retired) Clever Shadreck Chiramba who succumbed to covid19 related complications on the 27th of June 2021.

“In the face of various forms of neo-imperialism let us all remain united and alive to the clandestine machinations by detractors calculated to reverse the gains of our Independence,” said Mnangagwa.

Although critics of his government have said corruption and abuse of human rights were at the centre of the collapse of the socio economic structure of the country, Mnangagwa rallied the nation to stay strong in defending and protecting the country in a bid to safeguard the country’s sovereignty.

“We should never grow tired of defending, protecting and safeguarding our country’s sovereignty. The promotion of our rich history, identity and Vision for the future remains foremost, guided by the adage,” Mnangagagwa said.

During the burial attended only by family members, security forces and government officials who all underwent testing and screening, Mnangagwa called for vigilance.

“Our country is now operating under Level 4 lockdown to curb the present infection and death spikes. Let us all work harder to quickly return to normalcy. The country must continue to religiously observe the World Health Organization public health protocols and preventative measures Government has put in place,” said Mnangagwa.
