STANBIC Bank Zimbabwe has reaffirmed its commitment to environmental sustainability by donating US$10 000 to support the recent 16th Friends of the Environment (FOTE) 500 Million Tree Walkathon.
The event, held from Harare to Murombedzi, is a key initiative in national regreening efforts.
The contribution forms part of the Standard Bank Group’s strategic corporate social investment (CSI) programme, which focuses on delivering lasting solutions within its operational communities.
Tariro Memo, Stanbic Bank’s head of brand and marketing, stated the institution is proud to support Friends of the Environment and its mission to promote sustainability through tree planting and environmental protection.
“At Stanbic Bank, we have carefully structured CSI initiatives around the key pillars of health and sanitation, education, environment, as well as sport and arts. To that end, the 500 Million Tree Walkathon resonates with our objectives on safeguarding the environment, hence we are a key partner to this endeavour,” Memo said.

As part of its annual CSI partnership with FOTE, the bank also had representatives participate in the 110km Walkathon.
Memo highlighted that the donation followed closely after Stanbic Bank’s inaugural “Blue on Green Sustainability Forum” last month.
The forum, themed “Shaping Africa’s Sustainable Future,” gathered thought leaders, regulators, and industry experts to develop solutions for the region’s sustainability challenges.
According to Memo, both the forum and the walkathon contribution underscore Stanbic Bank and its parent company’s commitment to championing sustainability and green policies as foundational for Zimbabwe and Africa’s future.
“Stanbic Bank’s participation in the Walkathon embodies our commitment to sustainability and a greener future. For us it was not just about walking, but we took greater satisfaction in participating in planting trees and inspiring communities along the 110km journey,” Memo said.
Established in July 2010 under the Nyaradzo Group’s corporate social responsibility initiative, FOTE is a non-profit organisation uniting environmentally-conscious individuals and corporates to regreen Zimbabwe.
It has become one of the largest private-sector players in this field. With a goal of planting 500 million trees by 2026, FOTE focuses on three core objectives: raising awareness through events such as the walkathon, establishing nurseries, and direct tree planting.
The organisation partners with various corporate entities, including longstanding supporter Stanbic Bank.
