Simba Bhora . . . . . . . (1) 2
Bulawayo Chiefs . . . . . . . 0
Simba Bhora successfully arrested a troubling three-match winless slide at Wadzanayi Stadium, securing a morale-boosting victory over a resilient Bulawayo Chiefs side.
The triumph, built on some clinical finishing in each half, provided much-needed respite for a home side that had begun to look anxious in recent weeks.
A rasping shot by McCartney Nawaseb on 31st minute and Lawrence Chaziya's 66th minute header, proved sufficient to subdue the visitors.
Yet, the final scoreline masked a afternoon of intense frustration for the traveling side, who saw two goals chalked off by the assistant referee’s flag. For Simba Bhora coach Mandla Mpofu, the relief was palpable as the victory firmly halts the bleeding after a damaging sequence of two defeats and last weekend's tense draw against Highlanders.
The three points propel the hosts into eighth place on 31 points, though they remain a distant 18 points adrift of pace-setters Scottland with just 12 rounds of fixtures remaining.
Bulawayo Chiefs, meanwhile, languish in 12th position on 24 points—a mere seven points clear of the dreaded relegation trapdoor.
Unsurprisingly, the afternoon’s officiating drew the ire of the visiting dugout.
Chiefs head coach John Nyikadzino directed his post-match frustrations at referee Thabani Ruzario, lamenting the crucial decisions that went against his side.
He pointedly proclaimed that the "playing field was not equal."
The hosts had started with a high degree of urgency, seizing the initiative straight from the kickoff. An early opening fell to Harrison Masina, whose ferocious strike demanded an athletic block from Chiefs goalkeeper Tinotenda Chinovhiringa. Moments later, Nomore Tsabora attempted to catch Chinovhiringa out at his near post with a deceptively low effort, but the keeper reacted smartly to smother the danger.
Simba Bhora’s relentless early pressure finally bore fruit just after the half-hour mark.
A menacing Never Tigere corner provoked absolute chaos inside the penalty area, and amidst the ensuing melee, Nawaseb reacted quickest to fire the ball home and break the deadlock.
Chiefs rallied spiritedly in search of a quick response.
Brian Muza believed he had restored parity in the 41st minute when he ghosted undetected toward the back post to bundle a cross over the line, only to see his celebrations cut short by an offside flag.
The drama continued apace before the interval. At the other end, Chinovhiringa produced another excellent stop to deny Webster Tafa, before Masina somehow contrived to scoop the ball over the crossbar from point-blank range when it seemed simpler to score, following another poorly defended Tigere corner.
The visitors emerged for the second period with renewed vigor and attacking intent, only to suffer further heartbreak early on when a second equaliser was disallowed for offside.
As Chiefs continued to pour forward in a desperate bid to salvage a point, they looked increasingly threatening. However, their vulnerability from set-pieces proved to be their undoing once more.
Chaziya effectively killed the match as a contest, rising highest to power home a definitive second goal from an Adrian Silla corner and ensure all three points remained in Shamva.
