It has taken us some time to come up with the conclusion that our Zimbabwe Warriors need a 'middleman' if they are to succeed at the highest level of the game.
Not the middleman that we all know who makes money from both the seller and the buyer, but one who will link up Zifa, the players, and the national team coach.
His job would be to create a data base of all Zimbabwe's foreign based players, monitor their progress and performance through and through, and then make recommendations to the national team coach whenever Zimbabwe has an international engagement.
This will make it easier for the national coach to come up with his team for he only needs to look at each player's figures and current form statistics - and his own knowledge - to come up with the players he wants for his assignment.
This will be a departure from the status quo where the coach relies on social media and local media reports most of which are not accurate but mearnt to raise the profile of the player at hand.
Our opinion is that the person should be a full-time employee of Zifa as his job should extend far beyond the Warriors but also to the Mighty Warriors and the Young Warriors.
We honestly believe that Zimbabwe has a lot of talented footballers scattered all over the globe but - for some reasons - our national team has not been made up of the best players available for the nation.
We surely need to get rid of the disease of the past when the same players who disappointed over and over again continued to find their way into the national team set up even when they were not playing for their clubs
There is no reason why Zimbabwe should still be calling players like Marvelous Nakamba who have not been active for some time when we have too many active players all over the globe and for that matter doing well.
This person's other assignment would be to create -- on behalf Zifa --a relationship or rapport with the Zimbabwean overseas based players and the parents of the young ones so that trust is built between Zifa, the players, and the parents of the Under 17s and Under 20s
There was a time in which then Warriors general manager Wellington Mpandare built that relationship with most of our foreign based players and their parents but that rapport went with him when he was asked to leave Zifa House.
However, there are so many people around capable of creating a Zimbabwe foreign player data base as well as building a relationship between the national coach, Zifa, and our foreign based players and Zifa only has to throw a small stone up there and it will hit one to of them.
Although our immediate task is qualification for Afcon 2027, the ultimate goal should be World Cup 2030 and with the right plan we can make it.
If Angola, Cape Verde, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Togo, could make it, why can't we ?
